Jose Marti , Cuba´s national hero

The historical and universal legacy by Cuban National Hero, Jose Marti, remains today after 163 years of his birthday, in a context where his thinking becomes guide and promise that a better world is possible. Marti was born in Havana on January 28, 1853, and during 42 years of life until his death in combat in Dos Rios against the Spanish colonialism, his most illustrious mission was that of a marked existence by the sacrifice for the advent of a free Cuba.

But beyond the details of his life, undoubtedly, the validity marking every facet of his ideas makes the Apostle, as he is also known, be necessarily a man of all times.

His social sensitivity drew attention since he was young when during his childhood he sees a lashed slave and feels like own the affront representing injustice, or when as a teenager he admires the 1868 libertarian feat and is convinced that Cuba only left the way to independence if it really wants to be prosperous and happy.

Since then, his actions, and especially his ideas, will take him to jail, he was forced into exile, but he was also led to immortality.

Marti is the ideologist of a dreamed Cordial Republic and the intellectual who remembers that man has no special rights because belong to one or another race, because man is more than white, more than mulatto, more than black, because for example man, and all rights are said.

The Apostle, is also the spokesman of a thorough America, of that Our America -as he called him- from Bravo River to Magellan, a place where a native, African and mixed race people, along with Creole or European people, live together.

Marti is also the alert guardian who warns Latin America about the existence of the dangerous northern neighbor (the United States), of the giant who takes seven miles in the boots and can put the boot on.

Marti is also referent of altruism and his notion that "Homeland is humanity," is a basis for solidarity and essential foundation of an internationalism that will characterize the Cuban people hereinafter.

The Marti ideal will not die on May 19, 1895, because -rescued for the Generation of the Centenary under the leadership of Fidel Castro- will be the germ of the Cuban Revolution, which headed after its triumph in 1959 towards the implementation of a social justice project the so longing Republic with All and for the Good of All make at least come true.
