With the purpose of encouraging the creation and promotion of works of poetry, the Cuban Book Institute , the Editorial Letras Cubanas and the Nicolás Guillén Foundation convene the twenty-second edition of the Nicolás Guillén Poetry Prize, which will be governed by the following bases:
- All Cuban writers, with official residence in the Republic of Cuba, with unpublished works, with a free theme, originally written in Spanish, that are not committed to any other publisher and that are not pending resolution in another contest, may participate.
- You can compete in the form of printed work or by email through a pdf file. In the first case, three copies must be delivered, duly numbered and stapled, written on sheets of 8 ½ x 11 inches, on one side, typed or computerized, double spaced and with a legible font size of no less than 12 points. If the work includes illustrations, they must be inline, black and white, and presented on CD, with a resolution of no less than 300 dpi. and a printed proof, or on paper with a sharpness that allows them to be scanned or reproduced by other techniques. If the email modality is chosen, the characteristics of extension, letter and format must be maintained.
- The works will be sent to the emails Premioscarpentieryguillen@icl.cult.cu or Premioscarpentieryguillen@gmail.com ; or delivered at: Nicolás Guillén Poetry Prize, Editorial Letras Cubanas, Obispo 302 corner of Aguiar, Old Havana, Havana, Cuba, CP10100.
- The length limit of the competing poems must be at least 1,000 lines of verse. In the case of poetic prose, a minimum of 60 pages will be accepted.
- The authors will compete with a pseudonym and, in a separate envelope, will include their full name, address, telephone, email or any other form of communication, as well as a brief curriculum. If the e-mail modality is chosen, two files must be sent, one with the work itself, in which the pseudonym must appear and the other with a letter, whose file name will be the pseudonym itself and which will contain the personal data of the contestant. Any violation of these requirements implies the disqualification of the originals.
- The Jury will be made up of three intellectuals of recognized prestige, among whom may be an editor, chaired by a representative of the convening institutions, plus a secretary for the work of the Jury. Decisions will be made by simple majority and the results will be final. The Jury may preferably recommend to Editorial Letras Cubanas, and to other publishers, the publication of works that are finalists.
- The members of the Jury will be announced opportunely.
- The prize, which will be unique and indivisible, will consist of 70,000 pesos (MN), and includes a diploma, the publication of the work by the Editorial Letras Cubanas and the payment of copyright according to current legislation.
- Editorial Letras Cubanas will retain the exclusive rights for five years for the publication of the award-winning work. During this period, the publication of the work by a foreign publishing house must be previously coordinated with the Editorial Letras Cubanas and, if materialized, the new edition must mention the award received.
- The deadline for admission of the works will be extended until September 15, 2022.
- The Jury's decision will be announced in a timely manner through the media and on the website of Letras Cubanas ( www.letrascubanas.cult.cu ).
- The Prize will be awarded in a ceremony that will be part of the general program of the International Book Fair, Havana 2023.
- The organizers do not undertake to return the printed originals. Works in pdf format that are not winners will be destroyed. The organizers are not committed to any possible anomaly suffered by the files sent by email, be it deterioration, copying or plagiarism.
- The authors awarded in this contest must wait 3 years to compete again.
- There will be no communication with the contestants.
Participation in the Prize implies full acceptance of these rules.
