In 1961, the first edition of the book How the National Culture Emerged was published in Cuba ., by the Cuban intellectual Walterio Carbonell (1920-2008), whose life, work and thought is still a pending issue among the approaches to contemporary figures in the Cuban cultural scene. […] With a new edition of said title, forty-five years after its first edition, the Ediciones Bachiller imprint of the José Martí National Library of Cuba was opened. Regarding its presentation in 2005, the historian Eliades Acosta Matos, then director of the National Library, stated that Walterio's book "is one of the most radical in revolutionary historiography." At the same time, the journalist and writer Pedro de La Hoz pointed out that “Cuban social scientists have in Walterio's book current proposals to debate and polemicize. It would suffice to take up this affirmation of his to encourage the analysis: Africa has facilitated the triumph of the country's social transformation. This does not mean that Spain has disappeared. Spain has become Africanized.
