The general director of the Alliance Française in Cuba , Marc Sagaert , appeared before the press to communicate the role that France will occupy in the International Book Fair of Havana.
«This year the Alliance brings a diversified and interesting program with new proposals for the French-speaking and Hispanic public and places special emphasis on the work of literary translations. We want to pay tribute to a great lady of French letters, Silvia Baro Superville, writer, poet, essayist and translator," said Marc Sagaert .
The Havana International Book Fair is an important moment for the dissemination of the book, exchange between publishers, authors and librarians. It summons a large public as it is a cultural meeting.
During these days there will be a conversation between two specialists on Silvia Baron Supervillie: Martine Sagaert , a specialist in contemporary literature, who gave the first conversation about the author, and René de Ceccatty , an essayist and one of Silvia's main editors.
Given the unique personality of the writer, the documentary film with the same title, directed by Mario Daniel Villagra, a Spanish subtitler, will be screened. On that occasion, a literary cabaret will be held in her honor, a bilingual reading of texts and excerpts from her novels, with the Malva duo as guest musicians. Both activities will take place at the Alianza Francesa on Paseo de Prado, in Old Havana.
«We took advantage of the presence of René de Ceccatty to present a panel on translation together with Jesús David Curbelo , a prominent Cuban writer. Translation will be dealt with from the point of view of two writers, how they conceive it and how it enriches their work”, claimed Marc Sagaert .
The Alliance's stand will be located next to the guest of honor country, in the central place of the Fair. With various proposals, also available at the Media Library of the Alliance Française, among them Miradas a La Habana , a book of black and white photographs by the French photographer Franck Delorieux .
The schedule of activities is also available on the website of the French Embassy in Cuba .
