The director of the Restoration and Paper Binding Workshop of the OHCH, Anyxa Quesada, presented a Visitors' Book to the Eusebio Leal Spengler House of the City Historian's Office of Havana (OHCH).
The work is the result of the Workshop on Artisan Bookbinding. Imparting key tools for the training of trainers. It is a joint project between the ACERCA Program of the Spanish Development Cooperation and the OHCH.
Dedicated to the eternal City Historian, the book is a unique copy, handmade with papers and leathers are specifically chosen for this work; it has a jewel inlaid with the image of the flag of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.
The Eusebio Leal Spengler House is located in an important 18th-century building where the illustrious Cuban thinker Francisco de Arango y Parreño was born on 22 May 1765, a member of the reformist current of thought of his time.
Currently, the Investment Division and the Architecture and Urban Planning Project Company RESTAURA, which is part of the OHCH, are carrying out a rehabilitation process in the old palace, which preserves the office of Dr. Leal Spengler, just as it was until his physical disappearance on 31 July 2020.
Once fully refurbished, the ground floor of the cultural center, which was the intellectual's last office, will have four permanent exhibition areas on Leal's life and work; these will be named after his most relevant publications and phrases: "The hand executes what the heart commands." Leal the Restorer; "Legacy and Memory". Leal the Historian; "Patria Amada" (Beloved Homeland). Leal the Patriot, and "Son of my time". Leal the Universal Man.
Also, on this level, there is a modern Information Center with the necessary reference materials for those interested in studying the work of the architect; a conference and projection room, and an archaeological area with excavation work carried out during the restoration of the old mansion.
