The 1st International Urban Art "Generarte" takes place in Havana for empowered women and to promote gender equality through art. Guest countries are: Venezuela, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil. Some cultural activities scheduled are: dance and theater performances, mural exhibitions.

For one week, Havana becomes the stage for urban art, with women as the protagonists. Historically this has been a male-dominated field, Cuban female artists have begun to make a significant mark, contributing unique perspectives and challenging established norms.

Many female artists use their art to comment on crucial social issues in Cuba, such as scarcity, inequality, the role of women in society, identity, and freedom of expression. They seek to make women visible in the Cuban society, challenging gender stereotypes and promoting female empowerment.

Incorporating elements of the Cuban culture, symbols, colors, music, and historical figures, the Cuban artists are able to create their work, and this way, they tribute to the Cuba’s cultural richness. Thus, amidst vibrant colors and diverse techniques, they create works that attract the public's attention and convey effective messages.

While graffiti and muralism are the most common techniques, some artists explore other ways of urban expression, such as installations, interventions in public spaces, and ephemeral art.

Creating works that invite reflection and dialogue, urban art and its current exponents face challenges. The lack of resources and permits to carry out interventions in public spaces are some of them, hence the eagerness to remain in the Cuba's artistic scene and unleash creativity and inventiveness.

In this first encounter with street art, we aim to explore various forms of artistic expressions that are exhibited in public spaces. They seek to create an impact, whether through provocation, reflection, surprise, beauty, or humor.
Although ephemeral, it also leaves a mark or imprint on the public, since its temporary nature means that it can be altered, covered or destroyed by time, climate or human action.

Women bring unique perspectives and offer new interpretations of reality. By exhibiting their works, they showcase female identity, empowerment, gender equality, and their experiences in society, inspiring this way other women and girls to pursue their dreams and express themselves freely through art.

May this be a powerful tool for the Cuban female artists can express their opinions, assert their rights, and challenge established norms. Thus, the promotion of women's participation in the street art can contribute to create a more balanced artistic landscape that represents the diversity in the Cuban society.
