Cuban music and its performers are at the crossroads of the United States blockade against the Caribbean island, lawmaker Lisette Martinez denounced on Wednesday.

The legislator made that statement at one of the permanent work commissions of the National People’s Power Assembly (ANPP), which is debating sensitive issues for the country in the prelude to the 9th ordinary session of the current legislature of Parliament.

Martinez said that Cuban music faces the closure of markets due to the fence policy exercised by the United States for more than six decades.

Cuban musicians are persecuted, defamed and their concerts are blocked, said the legislator, who spokes at the presentation by the Ministry of Culture on the proposal for the music business system in Cuba.

The Cuban lawmaker noted that the development of this system occurs in an adverse scenario for artists and their own work, which do not escape US hostility against Cuba, its people and culture.

Lisette Martinez, in turn, recognized the protection by the Cuban State and Government of musicians during the Covid-19 pandemic, at a time when cultural shows were cancelled.

In this regard, the musician and lawmaker Oslando Chacon called to recover the cultural spaces in towns, which for more than two years have been closed due to social distancing to prevent the transmission of the disease.
