The Acosta Danza company, directed by Carlos Acosta, will start on Friday a tour of several regions of Spain with the Tocororo Suite, it reported.

According to a press release, the dancers will perform on Friday and Saturday at the Jovellanos Theater, in Gijon, and on July 29 they will stage Tocororo, a Cuban fable, at the auditorium of Palma de Mallorca.

The company will perform at the Parque Almansa municipal auditorium on August 5 in San Javier, and three days later at the palace of Cantabria Festivals, in Santander. They will dance at the Roman Theater of Sagunto on August 11.

The company’s website reported that this choreography, premiered at the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana in 2003, was inspired by Cuban customs and characters, classical ballet, modern dance and folk dances.

Acosta, who graduated from the National Ballet School and was a student of teacher Ramona de Saa, was the first black dancer to take on roles of princes in choreographies by the The Royal Ballet, in London, the United Kingdom, a company where he danced from 1998 to 2003.

For its part, Acosta Danza is a renovated, diverse and experimental space for new Cuban dancers and continuously works with foreign choreographers, musicians, designers, audiovisual producers and painters on its shows.
