Children from an elementary school in Angola on Friday evoked the reasons to pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, a man with a pure, cultured and patriotic soul, who fell in combat 128 years ago.
Teachers and students showed their pride for becoming again the epicenter of the events organized here to commemorate Martí’s legacy in its universal dimension.
The school bears the name of the Cuban poet, essayist and revolutionary (January 28, 1853-May 19, 1895), who died ‘with all the energy and courage of a man of indomitable will and fortitude,’ as Maximo Gomez, head of the Liberation Army in Cuba in the 19th century, said when he confronted Spanish colonialism.
According to School Principal Elsa Seca, Marti’s activities are ‘a reason for pride and joy,’ because boys and girls declaim verses of the Apostle of Cuban independence and share the cultural day with Cuban diplomats and collaborators.
Eliseo Domingos, a graduate in Social Sciences, is among the main promoters of the initiative, since he is responsible for the education of the students in the extracurricular area, which includes singing and other artistic manifestations, he told Prensa Latina.
The library also has books donated by the Cuban Embassy, said Elsa Seca, who thanked, in particular, the support from Embassy’s Culture and Press Secretary, Raul Gonzalez.
According to Minister Counselor Guillermo Hernandez, it will always be a pleasure for the members of the mission to return to this school in Luanda, where students know Marti and offer him white flowers.
