This heritage city lives today on the footprint of the National Hero, Jose Marti, who was linked to Camaguey's roots from the patriotic to the emotional.

His marriage to Carmen Zayas Bazan, from Camaguey, is the reason for this, especially after the birth of his first-born son Jose Francisco, born in 1878 on a street in the Historic Center of this city.

For researcher and journalist Eduardo Labrada “it is strange that Marti was never physically in Camaguey, however, it is undoubtedly his link to the city from his loves”.

In statements to Prensa Latina, the researcher assures that besides his son, this is a place he admired, even when he extolled Ignacio Agramonte, independence leader of the 19th century, from Camaguey.

Beyond his marriage to Zayas Bazan and the biological fruit of that love, the patriotic feeling for the city is evident when he prepared in 1895 the final phase of the war against Spain.
