The exhibition of La Nasobuqueña Tropical, by Cuban visual artist Flora Fong; and pieces of the 18th-century oriental crockery La dama del parasol, opened at the National Museum of Decorative Arts in Havana as part of the 14th Havana Biennial
A call for the protection of nature and Planet Earth, a distinction to the Cuban and universal woman who has dealt with Covid-19 pandemic, the Camaguey-born artist proposes in her new personal presentation of 13 pieces of medium- and large- canvases, using mixed techniques that combine acrylic, oil and pastel.
“For me, it is important to leave a testimonial of the indispensable face masks, Flora Fong said regarding her work. Nasobuquenas was created between 2020 and 2021.
This presentation will highlight the transcendence of the exhibition and will leave a memory of the work and the curatorial project.
The pieces provide visual prominence to women and show the artist's ingenuity because, "using symbols that reflect Cuban identity", they recreate the use of face masks that became an essential attribute in the world since the arrival of the Covid-19.
Among the added values of the exhibition is the marriage of artistic manifestations, as it is an example of the possibility of welcoming the enormous talent that has been developed in Cuba’s art schools, in the museum galleries, whether municipal or provincial.
