The Havana-based Casa de las Américas has reaffirmed its full support for the Cuban Revolution against Washington’s unconventional warfare, aimed at destabilizing the neighboring Caribbean island state amidst the economic and health crisis generated by the covid-19 pandemic, further exacerbated by the US blockade.
‘Cuba, severely affected already by the US blockade and covid-19 and both their impact on the nation’s economy, is now the target also of unconventional warfare, a recipe that Washington and its allies have used to overthrow other governments that they dislike,’ reads a communique issued by the prestigious cultural institution, and points to similar attacks perpetrated recently against other Latin American nations --Bolivia, Nicaragua and particularly Venezuela.
This scheme, said Casa de las Americas, combines slander campaigns in the mainstream media and now also on social networks, economic sanctions, the recruitment of mercenary forces to unleash vandalism and violence and other destabilization plots.
Casa de las Américas commended the response by Cuban authorities, particularly president Miguel Díaz-Canel, who showed up and engaged in direct dialogue with residents of areas where some of the destabilization incidents took place.
The communique issued by Casa de las Américas underscores that Washington’s 60 year-long economic, financial and commercial blockade hampers Cuba’s efforts to control the current pandemic and advance toward development.
