Celebrating the 120th birthday of Cuba's National Poet, among other purposes, distinguishes the actions of the Nicolás Guillén Foundation for the coming months.

Throughout the country, through its branches, there will be exhibitions, book presentations, concerts, and academic spaces, until July, to bring us closer once again to the relationship between race, nation, and society in Cuba, and in the American region, including the United States and the Black Lives Matter movement.

At a press conference, it was announced that delegations from the provinces of Mayabeque, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey, Las Tunas, and the municipality of Cárdenas, Matanzas, will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first publication of La rueda dentada and El Diario que a Diario, as well as the 80th anniversary of Guillén's visit to Haiti.

According to the president of the Foundation, Nicolás Hernández Guillén, the celebrations in Las Tunas will include the Festival of Roots and Traditions, and the Meeting of singer-songwriters singing Guillén, the latter coordinated by singer-songwriter Tony Ávila.

The day will also include the presentation of several titles from the Sensemayá label, as part of the 30th Havana International Book Fair.

The Foundation is also inviting university students from all over the country to an essay competition centered on the thought and work of Guillén, a synthesis of Cuban culture by revaluing the black element and introducing mixed race into the national lyric.

The XIII Nicolás Guillén Colloquium and Festival will be held in Camagüey, the poet and journalist's homeland, from 7 to 10 July 2022, under the slogan "Here I am, oh my land."
