The screening of the documentary "Una fiesta de Changüí", by Santiago Villafuerte, becomes a prelude to the tenth edition of the Festival dedicated to this genre in Cuba.

The event, named after musician Elio Revé Matos, will take place from June 30 to July 4 in the Cuban province of Guantánamo, which is already carrying out activities for the celebration.

The audiovisual “Este es Nuestro Changüí” (This is our Changüi) was screened on Tuesday. It was written by Yaremis Estonel and José Cuenca and directed by David Hernández, who won the award in that category at the 18th Independent Music Festival in the United States.

The community changüi gathering called “Distinia del río, Los chacones” will take place on Wednesday and feature the bands Estrellas Campesinas and Changüí Guantánamo, prominent champions of this genre in Cuba.

The inauguration on June 30 will be a special occasion to unveil outside the Casa del Changüí Chito Latamblé a plaque that perpetuates the declaration of this genre as Cultural Heritage of the Nation in 2018.

Then, the show will continue with a series of tributes and recognitions for the 110th anniversary of the birth of changüi musician Arturo Latamblé, the 70th anniversary of the band Estrellas Campesinas de Yateras and the 15th anniversary of the Casa del Changüí (House of Changüi).

The event will also pay tribute to the 85th anniversary of the provincial radio station CMKS and to the gatherings of the community socio-cultural project La Cumbancha for their work in defense of this music genre.
