This volume 29 covers the Marti´s writings between late April and August, in 1888 as well as the Marti´s chronicles about the United States, which were written for the El Partido Liberal (Mexico) newspaper and many of them had never been compiled in Complete Works, together with those appearing La Nación (Buenos Aires). There are changes in terms of form and content in some writings justifing they are included in this volumen. This way, both the average reader, and above all, the literature or history researcher will be able to verify by comparing Marti´s writings, the way in which Martí modified those writings by eliminating and substituting phrases, sentences, adjectives and even complete paragraphs for the best accuracy. The journalistic objective is transmitting clearly to the readers of two Latin American countries. Both countries may have different pieces of information about the American reality, different ideas and images. Certainly, it was conceived within the highest aesthetic and literary parameters.
Today, the press is mainly focused on the United States´s election campaign, that then it was been carried out between the two candidates Grover S. Cleveland, for the Democrats, and Benjamin Harrison for the Republicans. About that campaign, Marti denounced the corruption and the participation of James G. Blaine, who failed to reach the Republican candidacy, but whose influence was really significant. Martí correctly foresaw about his reappearance in politics as a danger to Latin America, given his vocation as imperial expansionism. In volume 30, which is about to be printed, the reader will see how the Marti began his struggle against Blaine's action since late 1888 at the American International Conference in Washington.
The “North American scenes” at that time publish about the New York summer - always exhausting for the chronicler - the elevated railroads in that city, of an Anthropology Congress, the death of General Philip Henry Sheridan, one of the heroes in the North during the Civil War, and Courtland Palmer, who was called "The socialist millionaire."
The volume 29 allows the readers to appreciate the great maturity of Marti´s style and thought.
