Minister of Education Naima Ariatne Trujillo shared Cuba's experiences in the development of inclusive education with values of social coexistence, at a high-level UNESCO forum on Wednesday.
Speaking at the High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Education for Peace in this capital, the minister stated that Cuba considers that the development of education is one of its highest priorities, in line with the Constitution of the Republic (2019), which establishes education as a right of all people and a responsibility of the State to guarantee it.
Based on the aspiration to maintain a renewal process in the sector, we launched the Third Improvement of the National System, which focuses on the promotion of values and attitudes in the defense of human rights, gender equality, non-violence and peaceful coexistence, the Cuban minister stressed at the event, which is part of the 42nd General Conference of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which opened on Tuesday.
Trujillo also highlighted the intention to focus on promoting tolerance, developing sustainable habits and consumption patterns, protecting the environment and life on the planet, in a global scenario characterized by the challenges of climate change.
The program prioritizes the use of digital technologies, collaborative learning, hybrid learning environments and the acquisition of skills such as autonomy, teamwork, resilience and innovative personality, she explained.
The minister insisted on Cuba’s vision to seek a greater role through education for the learning subject, attention to talent and inclusion, professional vocational guidance and the comprehensive training of critical, autonomous citizens, identified with their nation and with the preservation of peace.
In that regard, she noted that such training was fundamental for orientation “in the complexities of the cultural colonization that attacks and lacerates the essence of our people.”
We think that its implementation can be an important platform to integrate alliances and synergies that allow us to make progress faster, with more efficiency, Trujillo explained at the forum.
According to the Cuban minister, another major step taken by Cuba was the approval of the Policy for Care of Children, Adolescents and Youth in July, which will benefit more than 3.8 million people in those age groups.
The initiative consists of concrete actions to address situations of vulnerability that may undermine the full development of children, adolescents and young people and to strengthen the comprehensive system of protection and promotion of their rights on transversal axes such as gender, skin color, territory, sexual orientation and gender identity, situations of disability and others.
Trujillo noted that the Government plans to approve a Code for Children and Youths in December 2024, as part of the legislative schedule derived from the Constitution adopted in 2019.
The minister pointed out that Cuba deals with a particular context, which intensifies global challenges, a consequence of the impact of the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the United States has imposed on its people for more than 60 years. years.
