At the Russian Cultural Center and organized by the Embassy of Cuba and the Sri Lankan Guitar Association, Cuban Culture Day was celebrated in the context of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Cuba and Sri Lanka and Che's historic visit to Sri Lanka in August 1959. There was also a representation from the Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs.
The cultural event also featured the participation of several Sri Lankan youth music groups that performed well-known musical songs from both countries, including the popular “Guajira Guantanamera” and the music of the prominent Cuban guitarist, Leo Brower.
During the event, the Ambassador of Cuba, Juana Elena Ramos, explained to those present that in our country the Cuban Culture Day is celebrated every October 20 because that day, but in 1868 the National Anthem of Cuba was sung for the first time.
The Ambassador also provided extensive information on the negative effects caused by the blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba in the culture sector.
