The 36th anniversary of the International School of Cinema and Television (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños, province of Artemisa, established on December 15, 1986 by the Latin American Filmmakers Committee as an affiliate of the New Latin American Film Foundation, was dedicated to a talk as part of the collateral activities of the 43rd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema under way in this city. EICTV director Susana Molina described the center as a reference for Latin American cinema and a champion of regional culture, considering that the documentaries and short films produced as graduation exercises make it to major film festivals, including the one currently held in Cuba. Molina stressed that ‘learning by doing’ remains a principle in this institution devoted to anti-colonial, non-commercial filmmaking and praised the importance of international cooperation to encourage creation through organizations such as the Federation of Schools of Image and Sound of Latin America, the French Embassy, the project Ibermedia and UNESCO’s program Transcultura. EICTV professor Jeronimo Labrada, winner of the 2019 National Film Award, remarked that the school has graduated more than a thousand students from 62 countries who have become professionals of sound human values committed to their time and region.
