Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez today lamented the death of musician and environmental advocate Osmel Francis, popularly known as "The Grandfather of Rap." "Regrettable loss of a sensitive and tireless human being in the defense of nature and the environment. My condolences to family and friends," the president wrote on Twitter.
Diaz-Canel’s comment is added to the list of Cuban personalities and institutions that expressed their condolences for Francis’ death the day before. Among those who expressed their condolences were the National Center of Popular Music, the Cuban Rap Agency, and artists representing all manifestations, who recognized Francis work as a singer, composer, producer, educator and environmental conservation activist.
