The founding of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC) by José Martí in 1892 started a tradition in the search for unity in the political organizations of the Caribbean nation.

His constitution, during the so-called Fertile Truce stage, confirmed the status of leader of the National Hero with one of his main contributions to the process of emancipation of the country, according to the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The PRC responded to the need to create a body for the leadership of the coming Necessary War (of independence from Spain), as well as to provide coherence and unity to the independence efforts.

At its bases, the objective was to organize the struggle not in order to precipitate the war, nor to launch the country into an ill-disposed movement, but to order a generous and brief war, which ensures the happiness of all Cubans.

The creation of the PRC also had among its purposes to contribute to the independence of Puerto Rico.

The Party was conceived as a multi-class and political military grouping, superior to those of previous stages as it ensured a single command for the preparation of the armed struggle.

With his leadership, the war of 1895 achieved the desired unity of the forces, although it did not achieve total independence from Cuba due to another of the dangers warned by the National Hero: the intervention of the United States in 1898.

On December 20 of that year, after the death of José Martí, Tomás Estrada Palma, decreed the disintegration of the Party.

However, the ideas started by the Apostle were taken up years later by one of his collaborators, Carlos Baliño, and the young revolutionary Julio Antonio Mella, when on August 16, 1925 they founded the first Communist Party of Cuba.

For 129 years, the precepts of unity of the PRC remain in force in the current Communist Party, considered a faithful watchdog and continuation of the principles and ideals of Martí at the gates of its VIII Congress, to be held between April 16 and 19.
