A famous landmark in Cuba, the National Museum of Decorative Arts is celebrating its 58th anniversary on Sunday as an excellent space to recall history and appreciate Cuban history.
Founded on July 24, 1964, this institution exhibits objects that belonged to the Cuban bourgeoisie, which collected important universal art works, as well as Cuban pieces, preserved thanks to the social policy of the Revolution, Director of this institution, Yosvanis Fornaris, explained.
According to Fornaris, at first only the original collections of the house turned into a museum were exhibited, and later other collections through donations, purchases or deposits were included.
Over the years, this building has carried out temporary and permanent exhibitions, teaching programs and communication management projects. It also promotes ties with creators, offers guided tours and boosts interrelation with the community.
“This anniversary is a special tribute to those people who have devoted and still devote their lives to such an indispensable institution for Cuban culture and heritage and the education of future professional and its noble work in the community where it is located,” Fornaris said.
To celebrate this anniversary, the museum invites to contemplate the pieces of pottery of the Talavera of the Queen and Cuba exhibition, which is made up of a selection of tools and decorations, which evoke the golden years of a popular expression of the 15th and 16th centuries with the adaptation of potter’s workshops to the innovative techniques of the Spanish Baroque and Renaissance.
