The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, recalled today the prolific career of the Historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal Spengler, who made the rescue and preservation of the island's heritage his life mission.
From the social network Twitter, the president evoked Leal's birth on September 11, 1942, as he pointed out his fruitful life, exalting each space of the Homeland, until he became an essential man for the Caribbean nation.
The digital platform itself received the samples of praise and gratitude for their delivery from various entities of the Cuban culture such as Casa de las Américas, whose publication recalled the charm of the historian, a worthy Cuban, who will always be in the memory of his people.
Died on July 31, 2020, the researcher, politician and academic, these days inspires a varied program of activities in tribute to his legacy, organized by the Office of the Historian of Havana, an institution that he exalted and directed for decades.
As an echo of these commemorative actions, they praised the legacy left by Leal, the José Martí National Library, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, the Cuban Institute of Radio and television, the Ministry of Culture, among other entities.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the Carmen Mantilla Gallery hosts the exhibition Before our eyes: art and pandemic, an exhibition dedicated to the intellectual by a female representation of Cuban plastic: Lesbia Vent Dumois, Isavel Gimeno, Alicia Leal, Flora Fong, Zaida del Río, Diana Balboa, Betsy Arias and Liang Domínguez.
As part of the tribute actions, the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park will open an Eusebio Leal Spengler classroom workshop in the Castillo de los Tres Reyes, a teaching unit that will train the personnel who will work in the restoration works within of the monumental complex.
