Young people from various institutions in Old Havana participated in the recent inauguration of the Eusebio Leal Spengler House Route in the Historic Center of Havana.
Organized by the San Cristóbal Travel Agency of the City Historian's Office, this didactic-recreational initiative becomes a specialized tour designed to interpret the symbolic capital of the figure of the eternal Historian (1942-2020), delving into his life, work and legacy.
This tour is an exclusive proposal of this entity for historical and patrimonial tourism that has tourist guides who will lead the public through the places where Dr. Leal Spengler's presence was most remarkable.
Norberto Hernández Suárez, a guide from San Cristóbal, who was in charge of this premiere tour, said that "it is about magnifying the work of a man who transcended his time."
The group stopped outside El Templete; in front of the statue of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, erected since 1955 in the square of the same name; on Madera Street in front of the Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, and at the Colegio San Gerónimo.
Later, in Mercaderes, the delegation visited the Havana Model, the Master Plan for the Revitalization of the Historic Center and the Maternity Home, and then went to the Eusebio Leal Spengler House, at Amargura No. 65, where Eusebio's fourth and last home was located from 2011 until his death in July 2020.
The Eusebio Leal Spengler House has been preserved as it functioned on Dr. Leal's last day of work. Inside the building, visitors learned details of the intellectual that made him feel his living presence.
The tour concluded with a stop at the cemetery where the scholar's remains rest, in the María Teresa de Calcuta Garden, at the back of the San Francisco de Asís Convent.
