The Event for the International Day of the Elderly will come to a close at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana. The event has been organized by the museum’s Department of Educational Services since last month.

The program will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a guided tour of the museum’s permanent exhibits in the Cuban Art Building, led by mediator and specialist Ortelio Rodríguez Alba.

Following this, the Historias de Papel exhibition will open in the Didactic Room on the second floor of the same building. This unique display is the result of workshops held every Thursday since September 19, under the guidance of Alexandra Álvarez Carvajal, another specialist from the department.

For the first time, active members of this community have taken on the role of creators in the exhibition.

For over a decade, the museum’s Educational Services Department has developed programs aimed at enhancing the abilities of the elderly who visit the institution, recognizing their role as one of the most sensitive and vulnerable groups in society.

Talks, workshops, tours, debates, interactive exchanges, and exhibitions are just some of the opportunities provided to this well-established community, offering spaces for dialogue, creativity, and expression.

As with every year, the weeks surrounding October 1, International Day of the Elderly, are marked by a series of events designed to share new knowledge and offer new ways to experience, appreciate, and interpret art.

This year’s celebrations featured unique exhibitions showcasing a range of artistic media, from engraving, drawing, painting, photography, and digital projections to contemporary works such as Pop-up books in 3D format.

These cultural outings included temporary exhibitions such as Viaje a Italia. Paisaje y Memorabilia, Ver Italia y Vivir. Experiencias de “lo sublime” en el arte cubano contemporáneo, La Patria de la luz, and Memorias de la Persistencia, with guidance from curators Niurka Fanego, Delia López, and Oscar Antuña.
