First Community Cultural Forum to be Held in Havana

To strengthen, carry out, share, and promote good community practices, the first edition of the Fórum Cultural Comunitario 2021 will be held from 10 to 13 November in cultural institutions and public spaces in Old Havana. 

The event - which integrates the neighborhoods and cultural projects located in this Havana municipality - celebrates the 502nd anniversary of the founding of the former town of San Cristóbal de La Habana and is part of the socio-cultural project TerArte of the Popular Council Plaza Vieja, which is organized jointly by the leaders of the renowned art-therapeutic project, the Municipal Authority of Culture and the Cultural Management Center of the Havana City Historian's Office.

In its academic and artistic-cultural projection, the event includes exchanges between cultural projects in Old Havana and other municipalities of the capital, environmental actions, and presentations of the different projects in public spaces, among other activities. 

Through its program, the forum aims to promote and connect diverse socio-cultural experiences that favor better community work at the local level. 

 This work is part of the actions of the international cooperation projects "Promoting cultural development in Old Havana: exchange between cities of the South for heritage rescue", with the collaboration of KCD ONGD and funding from the Bilbao City Council, and "Promoting the integral development of Old Havana for the enjoyment and preservation of heritage, with communication tools for social transformation", carried out jointly with KCD ONGD and funding from the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation (AVCD). 

The program of activities begins on Wednesday 10 November, at 10 a.m., at the Centro a+ Espacios adolescents, with the Panel of good community cultural practices, in which several invited projects will participate. In addition, there will be a dance performance by the project Alrededor de las Artes (Around the Arts), from the Jesús María People' Council. 

During this first day, but at 4 p.m., in the Jesús María Park, the Fair of community cultural projects of Old Havana will take place, in which they will present to the community the work they carry out in the promotion of different artistic manifestations. 

 Meanwhile, on Thursday, 11 November, at 11 a.m., at Habana Espacios Creativos, the Habana Diversx Panel will take place, a space for exchanging experiences on the challenges that this wonderful and creative city is dealing with. The meeting will feature panelists such as Adriana Heredia, leader of the Beyond Roots venture; Ricardo Machado, architect of the Colegio Universitario San Gerónimo de La Habana; Elías Assef, historian of the Callejón de Hamel project; Yolaida Duarte, of the Habana Ciudad Creativa working group; and Niurka Cruz, of the Centro de Estudios de la Economía Cubana. 

At the Plaza del Cristo, on the same date, at 5 p.m., there will be an exhibition and fashion show of the community project Estamparte, dedicated to the production, design, and printing of handmade articles. 

Meanwhile, on Friday, November 12, at 10 a.m., at the Casa de Titón y Mirtha, the Panel on good practices of community cultural projects in Old Havana will be held, and at 5 p.m., at Habana Espacios Creativos, the personal exhibition Flash comunitario, by the young photographer Fabián Campos, will be inaugurated as the final result of his Creation Scholarship at the institution. 

To close the event, on Saturday, November 13, at 9 a.m., at Habana Espacios Creativos, the activity Reciclatón will be held. A day of collecting raw materials that will be handed over to eco-friendly enterprises for reuse. 

The artist Leonardo de Lázaro, leader of the community project Barrio del Arte, will create a work of art with some of the plastic collected, which will be installed in a public space in the municipality.

In addition, at 2:30 p.m., starting at the Calle de madera, there will be a parade with the Grupo Gigantería Habana and the participation of various artistic projects from the community such as Rebeldía, Banzil Kreyol Kiba, Oddara Aché, and the Dandys de Belén.
