The 35th Havana International Jazz Festival, Jazz Plaza, will take place from January 14-19, 2020, in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, according to the organizers of this prestigious celebration.

The venues will be the Casa de la Cultura de Plaza -a foundational site where the national music award winner, Bobby Carcassés, began to develop what would be this great jazz movement in Cuba-, the Avellaneda and Covarrubias halls of the Cuban National Theater, and the América Theater.

An important delegation of American artists has confirmed their participation so far, including a jazz band that has won six Grammy awards, as well as artists and groups from Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Chile, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela and, of course, Cuba.

"Jazz is like a train that unites humanity. It is an art of peace, all it gives is happiness. Jazz Plaza is maintained by the stoicism and quality of the musicians who have graduated from our art schools," said Cuba's showman, the versatile musician Bobby Carcassés, recently, referring to Jojazz 2019.

During Jazz Plaza 2020, important figures of Cuban music will be honored, such as Juan Formell and the Los Van Van Orchestra, which has just celebrated its 50th anniversary; trumpeter Félix Chapottín, creator of the Chapottín Orchestra; the Irakere group and the tresero Niño Rivera, who brought the saxophone to popular music groups and would have turned 100 last April. Leading these tributes will be young Cuban musicians Dayramir González, Eduardo Sandoval, Carlos Miyares, and Michel Herrera, supported by the outstanding tres player Pancho Amat.

The 15th edition of the International Jazz Colloquium, which is part of the festival's program, will be dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Cuban percussionist Chano Pozo, the 60th anniversary of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba and the 20th anniversary of the television program A Todo Jazz.
