With the attendance of 300 foreign participants from 14 countries and all the provincial ballet schools in Cuba, the XXVIII International Meeting of Academies for the Teaching of Ballet begins in this capital.
Until April 12, at the emblematic Martí Theater, the event will promote the development of the art of dance through the exchange of academies from different countries, promoting creative displays of children and young artists in their competitions and galas.
This edition, the first one after Covid-19, is devoted to the 75th anniversary of the National Ballet of Cuba and the new generations of artists, according to the organizing committee.
Three prizes will be awarded: Grand Prix, Revelation and Best Couple to this will be added special mentions and collateral awards to recognize the excellence of the participants.
The program includes specialized conferences, ballet classes, repertoire, choreographic composition, physical preparation, as well as the auditions of works, by countries and academies. for artistic galas. There will also be workshops on modern dance techniques, makeups and other topics.
During the press conference prior to the event, the director of the National Center for Art Schools (Ceneart), Elizabeth Castro, reaffirmed that this event shows the priority given by the country to artistic education even in difficult conditions.
She added that in the preparations, the teachers have developed technical and methodological works of the highest level and continue the legacy of the initiators Alicia Alonso, Fernando Alonso and Ramona de Saá.
Castro also expressed that this 28th edition aims to maintain the international positioning of the teaching method of the Cuban School of Ballet, exalting it as artistic heritage.
This international meeting is promoted by the National Center of Art Schools and the National Ballet School ‘Fernando Alonso’, among other institutions.
