Since last February 10th, lawyer Yolanda Rodríguez has been sharing her knowledge between the state consultancy linked to the construction and assembly of the new Family Code and that provided by way of guidance to the citizens of the capital who make up Zone 69 of the same district, belonging to the Puentes Grandes People' Council, in Plaza de la Revolución municipality.

She specifically explained to them, with the love and pedagogy that characterizes her, all the details of the new Family Code, whose 24th version is subject to a People' s Consultation until April 30, to be submitted again to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) and then ready for a referendum.

The specialist talks about its general characteristics, its importance for society and the necessary study that society must make of the proposal for its conscious participation in the exercise of authentic socialist democracy.

"(...) Consultation on the New Family Code reflects the current Cuban reality in family matters. It breaks paradigms and in its entirety enhances the inclusive and humanist character of its articles, in total correspondence with the country's Magna Carta. Based on these arguments and others that I constantly explain in each of the meetings in which I take part, I emphasize the need to study it integrally, always thinking of the individual reality but also of those around us, in order to make proposals, modifications or issue assessments that truly enrich its normative framework (...)."

-With this legislative practice, Cuba is immersed in the construction of a more equitable and humanist society and, at all times, the Code expands rights and does not diminish anyone's rights. Based on this assumption, how important is it to conceive the process with the support of legal science specialists?

"In Cuba we had a very recent experience linked to the new Constitution of the Republic; therefore, our people are aware of processes such as the ones we are carrying out, together with the explanation and parallel accompaniment from the media.

"Our presence ensures timely explanation, adequate interpretation, and the incentive for active participation, because many times the ideas put forward are clearly shared by voters. And they do have to leave with a comprehensive idea - once they have finished the Consultation - of what the Code really proposes and provides for the subsequent stage that we will be involved in."

-Your daily professional life is linked to the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Cuba from a legal point of view. What does this experience leave you with in terms of your knowledge of the law, your family and the community?

"The great satisfaction of fulfilling the noble task of defending a project that exalts human dignity. I confirm my infinite passion for economic law, but getting into family law required me to study and prepare myself, and that is always appreciated.

"It has been a pleasure every exchange in the neighborhood, the hours dedicated to research, the feedback with constituents through a thank you.

"Once this process is over, I will have finished my commitment to the Zone, but not to society. I will then continue to accompany my country for a better future for all families, which is today the mantle of protection of the Consultation Project."

Yolanda Rodríguez thanks the people who included her in the task, which she confesses it has not been a burden at all, but one of the most beautiful experiences of her career.
