The musical and dance work Alma: The Revolution of a Dream, by Argentine photographer and director Iván Beláustegui, will be presented today in the Avellaneda hall of the National Theater of Cuba, in this capital.

‘I wanted to do a show that told Alma’s story, and to break out of the conventional parameters of a musical, to present a story without words, in which her music helped create various nuances and layers, as well as showing a combination of aerial acrobatics with shadow theater’, indicated Beláustegui the day before, in statements to Prensa Latina. The performance, made up of 23 dancers, is directed by the choreographers Joan Morell and Nilda Guerra.

‘We started rehearsing from the end of April of this year, it was an eclectic work due to the complexity of the movements, which linked steps of the modern Cuban technique with folklore and contemporary dance, in addition to the mixture of styles of dancers from different companies such as Acosta Dance, the National Ballet of Cuba and Revolution’, said Claudia Molinet, one of the main dancers of the show.

According to Beláustegui, his illusion is to take the work to other provinces such as Cienfuegos, Santiago de Cuba, Matanzas and Camagüey, because it was designed to go out and travel the world and take the most beautiful of Cuba abroad.

The show, which will also be presented this Saturday and tomorrow, December 18, brings together an excellent cast, said the author, and portrays the story of Yaya, a warrior woman and leader of an African village, captured and forcibly brought to the nation caribbean
