On the 129th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the newspaper Patria, founded by José Martí, the José Martí Cultural Society will hand over to Dr. Pedro Pablo Rodríguez López -leader of the research group of the Critical Edition of the Complete Works of José Martí from the Centro de Estudios Martianos (CEM) - the Periódico Patria Award, one of the most prestigious awards given by that institution.
Likewise, the Office of the Marti Program and its system of Marti institutions will carry out various actions to commemorate March 14, 1892, the anniversary selected to celebrate the Day of the Cuban Press, which includes publications on the Portal of the Center for Marti Studies http: / /www.josemarti.cu/ on the relevance of this newspaper in the organization of the Necessary War, the ideological political formation and the characteristics of Marti's journalism, among other aspects.
The online scene will also be essential to make visible the relevance of this press outlet for national history.
In this sense, different presentations will be shared on the subject of some of the most recognized researchers of the life and work of Marti, in the various accounts on CEM's social networks (Telegram and YouTube).
It also serves as the occasion to highlight that the Library of the Centro de Estudios Martianos preserves a restored collection of the Periódico Patria, and its different numbers are available on the CEM Portal, where they can be consulted digitally.
Patria, the official organ of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, was published on March 14, 1892 in New York and its last issue was 522, dated December 31, 1898.
