In addition to the value of this extraordinary acquisition, there is the significance of the date chosen, February 15, said a press release from the National Ballet of Cuba, which founded and directed the excellent dancer for several decades.
The note recalled that on a day like today in 1959, the then Ballet de Cuba held a historic performance, dedicated to the Rebel Army and the Revolutionary Government, which was attended by the leader of the triumphant Revolution, who held his first meeting with the company.
The oil painting is titled Pas de deux-homage and has been exhibited throughout the country as part of the exhibition My Friend Alicia, inaugurated in 2018 as part of the programming of the 26th edition of the Havana International Ballet Festival.
