The program of the Havana Historian’s Office this month is dedicated to the cultural experiences of this institution, which has joined a gender strategy in the field of cultural heritage.
In honor of women and the celebration of March 8, International Women’s Day, a program has been created that includes concerts, exhibitions and conferences.
This Saturday, in the Basílica Menor de San Francisco de Asís, there will be a performance by the choirs D’ Profundis and Nacional de Cuba, directed by Maestro Digna Guerra.
Next week, the tributes will begin on Tuesday at the Casa Eusebio Leal Spengler, with a lecture entitled La Habana es nombre de mujer (Havana is a woman’s name), given by collaborators who accompanied the important intellectual in his work as the city’s historian.
On March 8, the program begins at the Casa Simón Bolívar with the exhibition De lo imaginario a la razón (From Imagination to Reason) by the artist Yutsimí Zaldívar.
At the José Martí Birthplace Museum, Dúnyer Pérez Roque, MSc, will give a lecture entitled La mujer en la obra martiana (The woman in Martí’s work), while at the Casa del Vedado, Lidis Nuvia Rodríguez Díaz, a specialist from the National Museum of Decorative Arts, will give a lecture entitled Las flores, el motivo decorativo por excelencia (Flowers, the decorative motif par excellence).
The Palacio del Marqués de Arcos will host the exhibition Visibles y diversas, organized by the Department of Cultural Heritage.
In the afternoon, the Center for the Interpretation of Cultural Relations between Cuba and Europe (Palacio del Segundo Cabo) will give an audiovisual presentation on the role of women in the preservation of Havana’s cultural heritage.
The Casa de la Obra Pía will host the photographic exhibition Mujeres: vidas paralelas (Women: Parallel Lives) by Argentine-Spanish artist Oscar Pipkin.
On such a special day, music is a must, and the organizers have included a recital by pianist Ernán López-Nussa with the Raptus Ensemble Wind Sextet, as part of his national tour, to round out the tributes to women. The concert will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Colegio San Gerónimo in Havana.
