Tango song says that 20 years is nothing. Could be, but perhaps 25 years do count! 25 years not only succeeding in music, but also spreading music beyond our geographical limits. This is the case of the SeptetoSantiaguero, one of the kings of Cuban music, which has accumulated success after success since their beginnings and formation in 1995. The next annual tour in Europe 2020 (From August 28th to October 17th) will have a special taste as it celebrates its 25 years of Cuban Son, and there is more to come! Yes! Because the Son is the leading genre in Cuban Music.
When we talk about Son, we have to take a first look at Santiago de Cuba. The most authentic rhythms of traditional music are the Guaracha, Danzon, Changui, Bolero, Son. All of them continue to have their origins in the Eastern provinces of our Island. Moreover, if we try to find a more balanced reference, where experience and youth are together without disrespecting tradition, the SeptetoSantiaguero is the musical group that shines the most today. They go for innovation and authentic compositions with great quality. They constitute the best example of Cuban Son in the new decades to come.
The SeptetoSantiaguero was created in 1995 by Fernando Dewar, three chords guitar player and director of the group. The group comprises since its creation 7 virtuous musicians, trained in musical units such as La Casa de la Trova or the Patio de los Dos Abuelos. With a total of 10 CDs, the Septeto has many other awards and titles, 5 consecutive Grammy Latino nominations, included 2 awards, one nomination to the Grammy Americano and 3 Cubadisco Awards. The recent CD ´´A mi qué´´, winner of the Grammy Latino last year, is a tribute to the masterpieces of the Cuban Son. This CD is considered very valuable in their career and expertise in the sonorities renewals. It is a very heterogeneous album with contemporary elements and Rumba, where other important musicians participated as guests such as the Dominican singer José Alberto El Canario, Alexander Abreu, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Pancho Céspedes. This CD and the others, including new songs, will be part of the repertoire for the next tour in Europe.
