Shakespeare For a Solo Actor

After giving an intense and fruitful workshop at the National Theater of Cuba, Argentine actor and playwright Pompeyo Audivert takes the stage of Covarrubias room to present one of the most acclaimed shows on the Latin American scene in recent years: Habitación Macbeth (version for a solo actor). But the proposal is much more than a conventional monologue, since the interpreter assumes several characters from William Shakespeare's tragedy and is in charge of the entire staging of the play.

The critics in his country was almost unanimous: it’s a true theatrical event.

Liliana Vera writes it in La Izquierda Diaria: "Macbeth Room (version for a solo actor) is a version created in the pandemic by Pompeyo Audivert, who takes the performance to an extreme situation, at an accelerated tempo, showing us the story created by Shakespeare as a paranormal phenomenon of a metaphysical nature. The only actor directs the scene, the lights, the dialogues, the characters. It’s the work where the supernatural and criminal will of the protagonist become an unbridled obsession towards glory and power."

Audivert himself explains in his notes: "Macbeth Room is the attempt to throw a stone in the mirror together with Shakespeare, also at the level of the ways of production, to make transparent the supporting structure, the theatrical machine and its metaphor, without diminishing the extraordinary poetic power that his fictional productions hold, on the contrary, blending with them, boosting them, defending the mask (Macbeth), but also their sacred mysteries, their being a ritual artifice of a presence (us) that always evades the ambush theater sets lovingly to reveal it, and that perhaps it’s ours in that freedom of being without masks".

The numerous awards obtained by the performance and its welcoming by the public distinguish it right now in the Havana theater. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
