The Cuban Ministry of Culture called today for a tweet on October 20, in homage to the day of national culture.
The call published on that social network indicates that it is time to make the strength of the initiatives and activities carried out and scheduled for these days felt in tribute to the taking of the city of Bayamo and the intonation for the first time, that day, of "La Bayamesa”, later converted into the National Anthem.
The celebration began with the commemoration on October 10 of the 154th anniversary of the beginning of the struggle for independence on the Caribbean island, when the patriotic lawyer Carlos Manuel de Céspedes (1819-1874) freed his slaves and raised arms to the Cubans.
The day is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Nueva Trova Movement and was planned with a special community approach, so that practitioners of the most diverse artistic manifestations are performing in the neighborhoods, where local talent is exalted.
According to the organizers, the main objective of the celebration is to exalt the richness of culture through recitals, exhibitions, panels, workshops that, in the midst of a recovery process after the effects of Hurricane Ian, will not lose its spiritual essence.
The inauguration of the 27th Alicia Alonso International Ballet Festival of Havana will mark the closing of a Day of Cuban Culture that seeks to heal, fortify, rejoice the soul and, in correspondence with the thought of the Cuban ethnologist Fernando Ortiz, preserve national identity.
