After a successful performance by Danzas de amor que se fue in the first days of December, Danza Contemporánea de Cuba (DCC) returns to the stage of the Sala Avellaneda of the Teatro Nacional de Cuba to perform two world premieres.

The renowned company directed by Miguel Iglesias will perform Extracción, by dancer, choreographer, and teacher Laura Ríos, and Polvo, palabras, sombras, nada, choreographed by the distinguished George Céspedes.

The performances will be on December 25, at 8:30 p.m., and on December 26, at 5:00 p.m., in a program featuring the virtuoso cast for two hours.

With original music written for the work by Iván Fernández Real, winner of the Hermanos Saíz Association's Conmutaciones Grant, Extracción is the choreographic debut of dancer Laura Ríos. Its performer is Stephanie Hardy López.

Extracción is a piece that reflects on the connotation of the work of the body, its imprint, and also the weight of the mark of effort in a given space. It is the essence, the extract of a body, according to information from Danza Contemporánea de Cuba.

The piece seeks to highlight all the effort that goes into the artistic practice, which is not visible; it wants to show, fundamentally, every drop of sweat of all the previous preparation and "make its meaning last."

Meanwhile, Polvo, palabras, sombras, nada is the commission from the French Embassy in Cuba to the company, on the occasion of the centenary of the death of the great French composer Camille Saint Saëns.

The work was choreographed by George Céspedes; the creation and development of the choreographic material belong to the members of DCC and Céspedes, who also made the musical selection from the catalog of Saint Saëns and the edition, together with Alexis de la O Joya, producer of electronic music.

Polvo, palabras, sombras, nada have costume design and production by Vladimir Cuenca, and we will see on stage all the dancers of the prestigious ensemble, which celebrated its 62nd anniversary last September.

The repertoire of this last weekend of the year 2021 is completed with Danzas de amor que se fue, the piece inspired by Lorca's texts with choreography and music by the Scottish Billy Cowie, the poet of dance, according to Miguel Iglesias.
