On January 28, which marks the 168th anniversary of the birth of Cuba s National Hero José Martí, the activities of the Teacher and Disciple cultural project will come to an end. The project highlights the imprint of the Apostle’s thought of the Independence of Cuba on the work of his successor, Fidel Castro Ruz.

Started in October 2020 as part of the celebrations for Cuban Culture, this community work has been developed in the area near the José Martí Birthplace Museum, in the Havana neighborhood of San Isidro in the capital's Historical Center.

The program has been presented with the contribution of various institutions and projects based in that area, which generate workshops, tours, audiovisual projections, creators' fairs, book presentations and concerts, among other cultural activities.

Other events linked to the cultural project have been represented in social networks, promoting the virtual way, regarding the epidemiological situation of the country by the pandemic of the COVID-19.

The institutions incorporated into the program are the José Martí Birthplace Museum, the El Arsenal Cultural Platform, the Gorría Gallery-Workshop, the San Isidro People’s Council, the Jesús Montané Multipurpose Hall, the Casa de Titón y Mirtha, the Paula 109-111 Protected Residences, as well as the Municipal Authorities of Culture, Education, Public Health and Sports of Old Havana municipality.

The José Martí Birthplace Museum was built in 1810 and is located on the old Paula Street in Havana, currently named Leonor Pérez. The well-known "Casita de Martí" is one of the most visited museums in the country, mainly by children and young people who seek to approach the work of the most famous of Cubans. Inaugurated in 1925 as a museum, the building became the first heritage site that preserved and especially promoted the Teacher’s legacy.
