With clear skies and good weather, Vuelo de identidad took off in Trinidad, the result of the socio-cultural project Entre hilos, alas y pinceles, by Yudit Vidal Faife and prestigious craftswomen from Cuba's third largest city.
In this colonial city, one of the most beautiful and oldest in the largest archipelago of the Antilles, an artistic event took place, because "we owe to it the history and the strength of the present as an inspiring muse", the artist points out in the catalog notes.
Installing wings of varying dimensions on a given building, which are visible from various angles, give an enigmatic nuance to the surroundings and represent the onslaught of time on the city, its development, transformation, and, at the same time, hope.
The wings, metal structures lined with soft wrappings and decorated with the finest thread, embroidery, and hand-woven fabrics, typical of the thread and needle tradition of a town more than 500 years old, are the additional element added to the building for a specific period, which gives a timeless, visionary and forward-looking character to the surroundings and at the same time raises questions and stimulates the curiosity of the spectator who has the good fortune to visit Trinidad.
The exhibition is accompanied by canvas prints that illustrate the marvelous universe of weaving and its various ancestral techniques, taking to another dimension the meticulousness and preciousness that interweave the threads of time and history itself, which emanates from each accurate and precise stitch, like an amassing of accumulated knowledge in each strand of thread that intertwines in the evolution of life, and which is enriched from generation to generation.
Adding interesting artistic elements to a conventional exhibition hall fills the atmosphere with the paradoxical romanticism that is formed by combining art and unusual architectural elements, tradition, and modernity in a single work of art, legitimizing its very essence by transforming the utilitarian concept into the finest and most delicate of the visual arts, says Yudit Vidal, Universal Ambassador for Peace.
Alas del tiempo is a work born of the collaboration of the members of the project Entre hilos, alas y pinceles, as well as of all those who have contributed their love to make this dream come true. An artistic ensemble that already made history at the last Havana Biennial and is still shining...
Good luck and bon voyage!
