Poetry is a manifestation of diversity in dialogue, of the free flow of ideas through words, creativity and innovation. Poetry contributes to creative diversity by questioning, in an ever-renewed way, the way in which words and things are used and the ways in which reality is perceived and interpreted.

Thus, despite its associations and metaphors and its unique grammar, poetic language constitutes another possible facet of the dialogue between cultures.

During the 30th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), held in Paris in 1999, 21 March was adopted as World Poetry Day, to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to give endangered languages the opportunity to be a vehicle of artistic communication in their respective communities.

That day will be felt in Havana's Historical Centre, particularly in the Casa de la Poesía, where on Saturday 21 March, from 2:00 p.m., there will be an evening, in collaboration with the Cuba Poesía Cultural Center, the Economic Society of Friends of the Country and the writers' session of the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists (Uneac).

Poets Lina de Feria, Roberto Manzano, Reyna Esperanza Cruz, Alberto Marrero, Virgilio López Lemus, Karel Leyva, Yanelys Encinosa, Andrea García Molina, Jorge García Prieto, and Giselle Lucía Navarro will participate as guests.

The musical presentation will be given by the folk singer Ireno García, who will perform a concert entitled El oscuro esplendor, dedicated to poet Eliseo Diego on the centenary of his birth.
