The World Poetry Movement has also expressed its support for the Cuban people’s right to self-determination and sovereignty against Washington’s nearly six-decade old blockade policy and imperialist appetite.
The Movement issued a communique, in which it recognizes the US economic siege as the main obstacle to Cuba’s development and the aspirations of the Cuban people.
It recognizes also the tireless efforts of the Cuban people over the past 60 years of Revolution to build a prosperous socialist society on the basis of equity, social justice and solidarity, noting that despite the hardships caused by the US blockade, Cuba exhibits high education, health and human development indexes, comparable to those of developed nations.
World poets also denounced further restrictions imposed by Washington amidst covid-19, aimed at strangling the Cuban economy and generating destabilization and chaos to destroy the Revolution and bring about regime change.
'Hypocrisy drives US empire and its lackeys to even suggest a so-called ‘humanitarian intervention’ to presumably assist the very same people that they’re trying to asphyxiate,’ the World Poetry Movement said in its statement.
They stress that the only humanitarian assistance that Cuba needs and accepts from the United States is the lifting, once and for all, of the blockade policy itself.
World poets also demanded that Washington stop encouraging division among Cubans.
