With lectures about life and work of Miguel Failde, creator of Danzon music genrer, Matanzas province honored on Friday the 170th anniversary of his birth.
Faílde, author of ¨Las Alturas de Simpson¨ -the first danzon made public in Cuba on January 1, 1879 – became transcendental figure in the history of Cuban music, said Maria Victoria Oliver, professor and researcher.
Turning barely 12 years old, Faílde got involved in music thanks to his father´s support and from that moment on he kept a link with music that would turn him into illustrious personality, Oliver stated.
Oliver explained that the emergence of danzon provided Cuba with a genrer and dance that reflected a great part of the Cuban idiosyncrasy, so Faílde’s work will undoubtedly last forever in the national culture.
Born on December 23, 1852, Miguel Faílde wrote over 140 songs, mastered techniques playing the cornetin, violin, double bass, viola, piano, and in 1871 created an orchestra named after him that has helped to revive danzon dances for 50 years.
