Cuban composer, pianist and percussionist Ruy Adrian Lopez-Nussa is today among the finalists in the IV Tete Montoliu Jazz Contest, sponsored by the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE).
Lopez-Nussa competes alongside Spanish composers Pablo Gutierrez, Juan Mendez and Uruguayan Fernando Michelin during the musical event that admitted more than 150 musical works.
The Cuban artist participated with the work A Lyle, which evidences his own style forged from the piano and drums while he is part of the young generation of jazz musicians on the island.
According to SGAE's official website, the jury will watch the final live broadcast and, after listening to the finalist pieces -Vaarwell KC, Rubik's Cube and Cartas from the quarantine- will decide the winning piece.
The competition's final ceremony, scheduled for April 9, will feature special contributions by saxophonist Andres Gomez, bassist Tomas Melo and the Daniel Juarez band.
Founded in 1999, the Tete Montoliu Jazz Competition pays tribute to one of the most fundamental figures of the genre in Spain and joins together a series of activities and awards related to its main authors.
