The young and talented Cuban pianist Rodrigo García Ameneiro won the Grand Prize at the Rocky Mountain Music Competition - together with the Polish violinist Rozalia Bryla - among 108 contestants from the most diverse regions of the world.

The virtual competition, based in Toronto, Canada, in the 2021 summer season, was judged by prestigious figures of the music scene and great pedagogues of this field based in the United States, Russia, Jamaica, Czech Republic, and Austria.

García Ameneiro competed with the work La danza del dragón violeta, by the contemporary Cuban composer Aldo López-Gavilán Junco; a fact that distinguished him among his peers, as usually in this type of event a piece from the traditional classical repertoire is presented, however, in this case, it was something unusual as it was Cuban music and, moreover, from this century.

Great mastery and knowledge were shown by the performer in appropriating this jewel which presents a formidable morphological structure, as he has been one of the pianists who has worked most deeply on Aldo's work - and also as Aldo is his teacher of the instrument - he has made it possible for him to organically incorporate all the resources of the piece, and this was noticeable in the successful performance.

With a formidable career, the Cuban pianist Rodrigo García Ameneiro has recently been awarded, together with the violinist Tania Haase, with whom he forms the duo Espiral, the Chamber Music Prize, in the Master category, at the Medici International Music Competition.

In addition, during this year 2021, they won the highest recognition in the Musicalia 2021 Competition, awarded by the Faculty of Music of the University of the Arts of Cuba, in the category of instrumental formats or ensembles.

Although his career is still in its early stages, his achievements include the award for best composition at the Stanford Jazz Workshop 2016; first place in the international Vivo competition (2018) at Carnegie Hall in New York; and special prize in the international Grand Prize Virtuoso Amsterdam (2019), together with violinist Tania Haase.
