The Cuban stand at the Dubai World Expo offers visitors attractions linked to Cuban traditions and culture. One of those attractions is Cuban son music, performed in the unique style of Septeto Santiaguero.

The band leader, tres guitar player Fernando Dewar, thanked the Cuban Chamber of Commerce for the invitation to represent the country in a celebration of Cuban Culture, set for February 14th, in the framework of the Dubai World Expo.

Maestro Dewar said that in their upcoming presentation –their first ever in the United Arab Emirates-- Septeto Santiaguero will perform a varied repertoire that includes recent hits like ‘La Meneadera’, ‘Amor Silvestre’, ‘El Run Run de Los Compadres’, the changüí tune ‘La Rumba está buena’, and also emblematic pieces like ‘Chan-Chan’, popularized by its author, the late Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo).

He stressed that the tour includes performances in other Middle East countries like Egypt and Qatar.

Along with several nominations, the orchestra won two Latin Grammy Awards, the first one in 2015 in the category of Best Tropical Album for their production “No quiero llanto-Tributo a los Compadres,” in collaboration with Dominican singer José Alberto --El Canario-- and then again in 2018, in the category of Best Traditional Music Album for their production ‘A mí qué’, released under EGREM label.

Septeto Santiaguero is considered a great exponent of the music created in the Cuban eastern City of Santiago de Cuba – designated as UNESCO Creative City of Music in 2021.

After a necessary pause due to theCovid-19 pandemic, Septeto Santiaguero represented Cuba at the 49th edition of the Cervantino Festival in Mexico in October 2021.

From July to September this year, the award-winning ensemble will embark on a new international tour with performances in Spain, France, Holland, Norway, Germany, Finland, Belgium and Denmark.
