As a true living legend of Cuban music, Oscar Valdés stands out, who this Wednesday, at 8 pm, will offer a concert at the Teatro América in Havana, within the program of the 38th edition of the Jazz Plaza International Festival.
As Laiza Valdés, daughter of the virtuous musician and singer of the Diákara group she directs, explained to Radio Cadena Habana, it will be an evening with famous jazz songs, fused with Afro-Cuban instruments.
The member and leading voice of the defunct Irakere orchestra, at 85 years of age continues to defend on stage the rhythms that he revered from a very young age and as part of the musical heritage that runs through his veins.
Jazz titles, which have become classics in the repertoire of the mythical group, such as: ʺDead Leavesʺ, ʺAin't no Sunshineʺ, ʺClaudiaʺ and ʺInfluenced Mamboʺ, among others, will once again make lovers of the genre vibrate, which will dominate Havana from 23 to 29 and Santiago de Cuba.
The presentation of the legendary Oscar Valdés this Wednesday, the 25th, starting at 8:00 p.m., at the Teatro de Variedades América will be a moment of nostalgia for several generations of Cubans, who enjoyed the Irakere orchestra for decades with the style and flavor of This village artist.
As Laiza Valdés expressed, the recital will also be an offering to the best years of the famous group created by the multi-award winning Chucho Valdés and to the contributions that it continues to provide to Creole sound art.
Songs deeply rooted among dancers and followers of our popular music, among them, ʺMi Habanaʺ, ʺSanta Claraʺ, ʺBacalao con panʺ, and ʺMayimbeʺ, will shake those attending the appointment with Oscar Valdés and his group Diákara, as part of the International Festival Jazz Plaza 2023.
