The virtuous pianist Frank Fernández tunes his piano and chooses carefully the repertory that will mark his return to face-to-face stages in the capital, after the pause imposed by the Covid-19.
Accompanied by the master Daiana García and her orchestra, the composer will pay tribute to his friend, the historian of the city of Havana Eusebio Leal, who passed away on July 31st, 2020 after a prolific life devoted to defending Cuban heritage.
According to what was informed by master Fernández’s office, the recital planned for December 16th, at 18:00 hours at the Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asís’s Convent will take place days after his participation in the Chocolate con Café Festival, celebrated in the province of Guantanamo.
During these two years of pandemic, he also got to the virtual stage as part of an initiative fostered by the Cuban Institute of Music and the Ministry of Culture, to offer his talent via streaming just like happened on the past October 20th, National Culture Day.
Having received the distinction of Cultural Ambassador by the Latin Institute of Music in 2019, this pianist also has the degree of Honorary Doctor in Beaux-Arts from D.F., given by the universities of Morelos and Xalapa, Mexico.
Being considered as the father of Cuban piano because of his students’ known skill, Fernandez has been acknowledged by the public and critics in more than 34 countries due to his career as a performer of almost every classic and popular genre.
In his catalogue, there are more than 200 pieces for choir, symphonic and chamber orchestra, cinema, and television, having received important awards in several contests because of these.
