The organization named Casa de David dedicated a dance session to the deceased artist and commemorated his legacy with a trip through some of his most popular songs.
Its founder Huo Yaofei or David (his Spanish name) said to Prensa Latina that with that tribute he meant to show respect to a distinguished figure in Cuban culture and who he defined as one of the best flutists of that country, including Latin America and the Caribbean.
I am sorry about the departure of El Tosco, after highlighting his work directing his orchestra NG La Banda and the contribution to the development and international outreach of the so-called Cuban “timba”.
He wished for José Luis Cortés’s memory and legacy as a flutist and defender of popular dancing music to last, after confessing to love songs of his like La Bruja and Échale Limón.
El Tosco passed away on April 18th, in Havana at the age of 70, after suffering from a brain hemorrhagic stroke.
He was a renowned flutist arranger, composer, musical producer and the director of the orchestra NG La Banda, with whom he stayed in the preference of amateur dancers in Cuba and Latin America since its foundation in 1988.
Due to his popularity and mastery, he was awarded the 2017 National Music Award.
