The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the XIV Meeting of Historical Sugar Heritage from being held, but its National Commission decided to reward the works submitted to the contest in a gesture of recognition to their authors.

Liobel Pérez Hernández, president of the working group, reported on the suspension of the event in the province of Villa Clara, although it was agreed that the juries will stimulate those responsible for the best presentations corresponding to 2020.

By categories, Professionals of Culture, the first place was obtained by the lawyer Sibelis Celidor García (Camagüey) for The contribution of Haitian culture to the sugar agribusiness in Santa Cruz del Sur. 

He was followed by the engineer Orlando Álvarez de la Paz; and the Masters in science María A. Jiménez and Reinaldo Pérez Jiménez (Sancti Spíritus) by Ingenio La Guadalupe, a look through archeology. 

The third was occupied by the lawyer Rubén Lenar Guerra Batista (Granma), with his Study for the collection of museum objects belonging to the sector of sugar workers in Manzanillo. 

In the classification of Other Professionals, in order they were Maribel León Rosell (Villa Clara) with History of the plant and its impact on the community; Lisset Molina Cano (Camagüey) with A sweet path. History of the supply activity of the sugar sector in the province of Camagüey. 

Also Lourdes Irarragorri Fernández, from the Transportation and Mechanization Services Company (TRANZMEC), from the AZCUBA Sugar Group, with her material Snooping on Cuban sugar cane. 

In the case of Sugar Workers, they were reached by Miguel González González (Holguín) with Memories of a sugar harvest in the 2015-2016 contest. 

Only Guantánamo and Mayabeque did not participate in the meeting, whose juries also awarded mentions and hope that the award will remain in Villa Clara, in line with the complex sanitary and hygienic situation of the nation due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
